THE STATE GOVERNMENT IS WORKING TO REDUCE THE DISASTROUS EFFECT OF RAINSTORM.
BENIN CITY: The Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Frank Okiye has assured the people of the State of government’s drastic efforts to curtail the disastrous effect of rainstorm in the State.
Rt. Hon. Okiye gave the assurance while addressing press after briefing and brainstorming with the Commissioner of Environment/Sustainability, departments heads and agencies under its ministry who were in his office in relation to the recent downpour and flooding which left a little girl dead and posed great adverse effect on life and properties in parts of the State.
The Speaker expressed condolence to the family of the little girl killed by flooding, adding that the State government has provided relief materials to flood victims.
He also promised,that the environment ministry will adopt more proactive measures to adverse effect of rainstorm and flooding in the State.
Earlier,the commissioner of environment and sustainability Barr. Hon. Omoua Alonge Oni-Okpaku while briefing press thanked the Speaker for the invitation as it is the first time the ministry has received such invitation to brainstorm on way forward on efforts to curtail the adverse effect of rainstorm in the State.
She enumerated some of the on-going projects for flood control which include Queen Ede,S&T barracks,Ekenwa road,Eguosa,Gapiona adding that the ministry aim is for People to live in a better and safe environment.
Other Honourable members at the briefing were Hon. Idiaye Yekini(Deputy Speaker). Hon Ojezele sunny, Hon. Emmanuel Omoladun Agbaje and Hon. Marcus Onobun.
